STANDARD CHARTERED BANK PREFERENCE SHARES

The Standard Chartered Bank was founded in London in 1862 by John Paterson from the Cape Colony in South Africa and started business in Port Elizabeth in 1863. The bank has been in operation since 1896 when it was known as the Bank of British West Africa.

 It was incorporated in 1970 under the companies code Ghana (Act 179), listed under provisional on the Ghana Stock Exchange on 12th November 1990, official listing on August 23rd 1991 and listed  its  preference shares on February 16, 2006.  The bank had been operating in Ghana for the past 118 years. The Bank is 80% owned by Standard Chartered PLC, and the remainder of the stock is owned locally and traded on the Ghana Stock Exchange. The Company is the oldest bank in Ghana, and ranked consistently amongst the top three banks, locally.  Currently, the highest priced stock on the Ghana Stock Exchange.
